There are chemical cleaners/dissolvers available which make it very easy to
remove. Sears carries them.

The distiller I had contained no copper parts at all. It was stainless
steel. Also, distilling produces some of the most, if not the most, pure
water available. There are problems only with substances which have a lower
boiling point than water. Silicate is not one of these. FWIW
