I don't think that organisms can become immune to copper. It is has a
destructive effect on any organisms without a spine. It is not like an
antiboitic. That being said, I still would not use it as a preventative in a
tank. It is stressful on the fish, and on the biological "system" in the
tank. IMO, if you are going to medicate your fish you should do it in a
separate tank and then transfer to your display. Keeping a well maintained
display, and providing a proper varied diet (a bit of selcon a couple times
a week will help too) will keep your fish healthy. Consider doing a fish
only, with live rock. That provides an excellent environment, and your fish
will do much better overall than with copper in the tank. If your are still
worried about it, throw a UV on there.
IMHO

I've seen studies where long term copper has been used in a FO
system with no apparent ill effects. It still doesn't feel right to me,
however. Would you take antibotics all the time so you didn't get sick ?
Does the constant copper cause certain organism to become copper immune ?
Tough call

Subject: Copper Question
I want to start a fish only aquarium and wanted to start
dosing copper right from the start to prevent any problems down the road.
Will a level of .15 have any longe term effect on the fish? and is this a
good idea? thank you in advance Joseph
