Hi all, I need you to please read this and tell me what you think.
I have a 100 gal FOT with 50 lbs of live rock, some fishes and some polips
and planning to add more polips as my nitrates go down.
The lighting was 2 x 40 watt blue azoo tubes.
2 x 40 watt full espectrum (white) azoo tubes.
The azoo tubes arent that good quality but my budget cant afford more. The
result was a really white light with a little blue tone. really nice.
The tubes are 1 year old and I need too change them, so i went to the LFS
and the salesmen told me that he does not use light bulbs anymore because
they last few months and the spectrum deteriorates very fast.
Then he showed me another light bulbs: These are Sylvania little (about 8
inches) U shape bulbs, which you connect with the help of an adapter to the
regular lightsocket. These bulbs doesnt need a ballast, and in the box they
come in it says 9 watts, 150 lumen or 250 lumen depending whether the
light is blue or white. And the bulbs life is 10,000 hours!!! that is 3
years at 12 hours per day. He says that those bulbs are the ones that the
coralifes mighty (i dont remember the full name of the lamp) lamp uses,
and that they are great for reefs.
Now Im unsure whether to believe him or not, but he keeps on saying that
those are not regular bulbs, and that it would be pointless to import those
bulbs from the us (i live in mexico) if they could bought them in here
(makes a lot of sense to me).
So please I need you to tell me if those are reef bulbs or not and i should
buy some coralifes bulbs maybe 50/50 and trichromatic or blue and
trichoramit. Metal halides are out of the question.
Thanks to you all.
Marco
