Shane, thanks, actually the bulbs i was talking about are Power Compact (now
i know that), and after researching the cost of the ballast i decided to go
with regular flourescent bulbs, hagen or coralife. But i am still thinking
about buying those PC, it�s just the ballast it�s too expensive, but would
appreciatte if you could tell me if there�s an big enough difference between
coralife bulbs and pc�s.

Sounds like a mini compact bulb. Is what you want to find out is what the
Kelvin rating of the bulb is. Is it 5000k or 6500k or 10,000k? That will
help determine if it is suitable for a reef or not. I wouldnt use anything
below 5000 kelvin. If they are above that, then go for it. Also, don't think
that those bulbs are going to last you 3 years. They may light for 3 years,
but like all bulbs, the spectrum is going to shift, and they are going to
loose intensity over time. I would stick with the 12-18 month bulb change
schedule.
