thanks Shane, i will consider that open brain, youre right. I preefer
fishes than corals (and it is cheaper too!!!)
Maybe more polips.
Anyway, i will continue with my caulerpa tank, and get rid og bioballs and
fuidized filter.
ok, gotta go, thanks for taking your time to explain me.
Thanks again.
Marco

Marco,
How big is the tank? What types of fish? Man, you may have trouble keeping
coral in there depending on the tank size, and fish. It sounds like you
really focused on setting up a fish only tank, and are now switching to a
reef tank. If so, and you have a large bio load you are going to try and
support, while still maintaining corals, you may need to add more live rock
(depending on tank size and type of rock) and or a deep sand bed (if you
want to go that route). By doing so, you will have a much more effective
biological filtration and thus will be able to easily remove you fluidized
bed and bio-balls. The caluerpa in the sump will also be very helpful, and
is a must if you are going to do a DSB.
Alkalinity can be kept up with just about any alkalinity additive. You just
need to dose an alk/pH buffer to your tank according to their instructions
and test it. There are many different types of alk. buffer you can use. You
test it with a test kit, so you will want to purchase one of those as well.
The calcium.... you will want to test that as well. It is not as important
as the alk, but is important if you want growth. Adding kalk will help, but
again you will want to test. If it starts to fall, you will want to use an
additional calcium additive. BIonic is a popular 2 part additive that is
made to do both, alk and calcium. Only draw back to that is if you have a
big or demanding system, it becomes expensive quickly.
Honestly, Marco, I think you should decide if you want to keep a reef tank,
or a fish only tank. It is really hard to do both. If you want to try and
stick with what you got, and not go full reef, I would suggest you pass on
the open brain and really stock your tank with more polyps, mushrooms and
those types of things. Maybe also mix in some leathers, but stay away from
stony corals. They are a bit more picky than the polyps and leathers, and
may not do to well in your set up. If you were to go with the leathers and
such, you can pretty much leave the tank the way it is and not have to worry
as much about the alk and calcium. That will really help you be successful
for the long run.
Just some feedback for you....
Shane
