Another way to do it, if you have room, is to link the sump to the refugium.
If you can raise the refugium above the sump, then drill the refugium
towards the top so it acts as an overflow back into the sump. If you drill
it, you can install a bulkhead and then plumb it back to the sump. Then you
can pump water directly from the sump, into the refugium where it will
overflow back out into the sump. No worries that way. Problem is getting the
top of the refugium higher than the sump.
