Thanks Mark, but the problem is that my coral is different from yours. Im coral inexpert so i really dont know what kind it is, and it appears that the lfs owner didnt know either, or its just another kind diferent from yours, mine is green/blue with red, but it doesnt haave any mouths except for what i thought but now im convinved those are other creatures living in the coral. Better take pics and send them to you Thanks!! Marco

When I first got it 5 years ago, I didn't see any at all. They started to appear as my water quality and overall tank condition improved. The whole thing shrinks tremendously at night, and it just looks like a little blob on top of the skeleton - no tentacles visible then either. Even now they may disappear for a day or two if it is not happy with something. Sure, send the photo - I always love to see other people's tanks. I'm not much of a taxonomist though, so I don't know if I can be much help on an ID. I've seen open brains with quite a variety of looks though. Good luck, Mark -----Original Message----- From: Marco Delsordo <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Thursday, October 04, 2001 11:49 AM Subject: RE: MOON CORAL ohhh man, thanks, so maybe a I dont have an ob coral!!! because mine is similar to yours but definitely not the same species, of course i can the see tentacles in your ob coral and mine for sure doesnt have tentacles. I will take a pic so you can help me to identify him. maybe i will send it to your e mail? Thanks Marco -----Original Message----- From: Mark Gross [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Mircoles, 03 de Octubre de 2001 08:53 p.m. To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: MOON CORAL If they are moving in an out very rhythmically, it sounds to me like they might be little barnacles. Tubeworms zip into their tubes to hide, but they don't go in and out in any specific rhythm. Also, the tentacles on the open brain are a significant distance outside the actual mouths. I uploaded a picture to: http://personal.lig.bellsouth.net/lig/s/e/sekimon/images/Brain.jpg that might help. The blue arrows on the left point to some of the visible tentacles. The blue dots on the right show the location of tentacles that don't show up in the picture. The green dots are around one of the mouths. When I put a piece of shrimp on the tentacles, they kind of stick to it and the whole area slowly folds in until it pulls the food into the mouth. Hope that helps. BUT THEY ARE MOVING VERY FAST TAKING FOOD TO THE INSIDE FOR ABOUT 1 TIME EVERY 2 SECONDS, AND THEY MOVE REALLY FAST, ID SAY THAT EVERY TIME THEY COME OUT AND IN, TAKES NO MORE THAN 1/2 SECOND? DOES THEIR TENTACLES USUALLY DO THIS? AND WHEN A FISH SWIMS OVER THEM, AND THE SHADOW COVERS THEM, THEY HIDE, AND THEN THEY START COMING OUT SOON. -----Original Message----- From: Neptune [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Mircoles, 03 de Octubre de 2001 04:32 p.m. To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: MOON CORAL Those are the polyps! It's a good sign to see them extend! Craig Ok Neptune, thanks for the info. I would love to see your tank man!!!. Anyway, I was looking at my open brain coral 1 hour ago when i went home for dinner, well, i saw what i think are his mouths?, little holes in many places of the corals body and saw little things coming out of those holes. Those were little "hands" like a feather duster coming out and then into the hole again in a rythmical form. I guess that little "hand" traps little organic matter that the animal can eat. Are this the tentacles you were talking about yesterday? or is this another kind of animal living in the coral?
