Nope, no actinics. I can get away without using them because I use the
6500k MH's. I have been thinking about adding one VHO just to see if it
would make any difference, but I certainly don't need one. My MH's are a
retrofit. I went to the local electrical supply and bought the ballasts,
sockets, and wiring. My tank is built into the wall in my basement with the
back of the tank in my laundry room. My MH's are mounted to a 2X4 with
aluminum sheeting to reflect and protect the wood from heat. They are about
18 inches above the top of the tank.
I have two float switches in my sump in serial for redundancy. They go to
one of the inputs of my Aquacontroller. When they drop, the aquacontroller
switches on a pump in a 5 gallon plastic bucket which pumps the kalkwasser
into my sump until the float switches rise again. Also, I have a 80 GPD
RO/DI by Spectrapure fill the 5 gallon bucket automatically with one of
their electronic level controllers. I just add Kalkwasser to the bucket
every few days.
I have a green open brain, a few white fairy toadstools, tongue coral,
purple gorgonian, bubble coral, and the moonstone of course. I had a lot
more, but I lost a lot in a recent power failure which resulted in a small
catastrophe. I am lucky that anything survived. I think that I have taken
measures to prevent it from happening again. I hope this helps.
