My understanding is that you only need a registered agent if you don't want to
have your personal name & contact info available as part of the public records
for the company.  I formed my LLC in 2008 and put myself as the registered
agent and haven't had a single problem.  It just means all mail is sent
directly to me rather than to someone else that then forwards it to me.  I do
get occasional junk mail (1-2 pieces / month, and more after initial filing)
but that's not hard to throw in the trash and I'm sure the agent would end up
forwarding it to you anyway.  As far as unwanted phone calls go, if you don't
want to give out your personal number just purchase an ObiHai for $40 and
register a google number for it and your set (there are no recurring fees for
using an ObiHai and it plugs directly into your router so your computer doens't
need to be on for it to work).  I get about 6 phone calls a year from having
given out the number on my
filing.  The only down side to being your own agent is if you move very often,
I believe there is a minimal fee to update your address with the state whenever
you move.  All in all, I would recommend being your own agent unless you've got
too much money and are trying to figure out how to spend it.

Cheers!
Eric

Subject: [Refresh Austin: 6251] Registered Agent services?

Hi all,

I'm in need of some sort of Registered Agent service for my LLC... just
somewhere to be the physical address for the LLC, and possibly forward some
mail.  I've googled some and found several, but was wondering if anyone on this
list has any recommendations (or horror stories)!

Thanks,
Chadwick Wood
