Description:

Diseba: a distributed and secure backup system.
The safest backup is a backup on a remote computer. However, it is difficult
for an individual because they usually lack access to a remote server they
can manage.
Considering that hard-disk are quite cheap and have more and more capacity,
one solution would be to save the content of your hard-disk on the disk of
your friends (and of course, they would do the same on yours). With enough
duplication, a crash of a disk would not impact your backups. Of course, you
don't want your friends to read your emails, so saved data should be properly
encrypted.
Diseba is a software that will allow to save one's data on the computers of
friends. The data are encrypted so that only the owner of the data can read
it. The data is replicated on several computers so the crash of one computer
does not impact backup availability. Diseba is NOT yet another peer to peer
system: the set of computers allowing backup between each other is "closed"
(a kind of "club"), through strong authentication.
