Edward,
   No, fink doesn't have wxPython 2.9.3. I only used it for the updated MacPorts
packaging because they decided to not support wxPython 2.8.10.1 on python 2.7.
The build seemed to behave about the same (although loading was a bit slower).
I haven't carefully checked the macports build though to make sure that the
associated python scripts were all optimized or compiled (which could be a 
factor).
I see the same issues with wxPython 2.9.3 of the main relax gui window being 
larger
than its initial content and the --test-suite run for the gui interface 
producing
those complaints about the missing monitor file.

ps Yes, fink can be pretty bad about creating huge dependency trees which cause
a lot of package to be built. Just building gnuplot is a mess.
