Your lack of use of current desktops is showing, Keith: these systems
have been working on system management tools (e.g. Kups in KDE, and other
such KDE tools, Ximian set up tools), and they prompt the user for root
passwords at appropriate times.
I beleive the interface should exist: getting it implemented correctly
can/should be left to the desktop folks. Just presume that file protection
is active, in the usual forms, to enforce security appropriately.
