It was argued (by Bob @ S-Com) that "If you choose the FM, it must be
accompanied by a preemphasis circuit that covers the entire voice audio
spectrum" while you do not on a PM exciter. I will point to the list
name and remind everyone that when using discriminator audio, you do NOT
need a preemphasis circuit with an FM modulator. In fact, you CAN'T use
one or you will get double-preemphasized audio.
 
Yes, of course, if the audio has already been preemphasized elsewhere else (in this case the user's transmitter), then you do not preemphasize it again at the FM exciter in the repeater.
 
The point was that everyone in the hobby transmits preemphasized voice audio just as if we all had PM transmitters. If you have an FM transmitter, then it must be made to transmit preemphasized audio somehow.
