I would have to say if you have a amp at say 50 watts and you use a very high gain antenna and have very good coax with very minimal losses you should be able to perform just as well as a amp or XMTR at higher power running a cable with say minimal losses and a antenna that does not perform as well as a antenna with much better gain or even yet crappy coax.   overall the antenna system will perform is what kind of system is designed, and Height Above Agerage Terrain  ( HAAT ) will show how well the system operates.     Mark Holman let the spam bots go figgure.     ----- Original Message ----- From: James To: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com Sent: Friday, August 27, 2004 5:19 PM Subject: Re: [Repeater-Builder] Looking for amplifier suggestions Why do you folks have to ask questions like that. Some users DO have radios over 100 watts. Some repeater owners DO have voting receive!! Please just answer the guys question. I know that MOST repeaters ARE over 50 watts and some even have pre amps on them. A preamp of just 3 dB in theory would make a 50 watt mobile seem as strong as a 100 watt mobile provided no enviromental factors are effecting either end. I'm putting in a new repeater to replace an old one, but the new one is 50 watts output instead of 130. I'm looking for suggestions for a Power Amplifier.
