You didn't specify what frequency band you are thinking about. 

  Re the 150 MHz band:

  Transmitter - all multiplication is external and after the modulator. 

  Receiver - the output is three times the crystal frequency. 

  Is usually much simpler to locate a used one - usually cheaper too.
