One of the simplest ways of dealing with lamp burnout would be to hook two
40 watt lamps in series. Produces about the same total heat as a single bulb
and lasts for years. I run a setup like that as a heater in my pumphouse (5
years and counting). Now if you need it for the lighting function as well as
heat it won't provide the candle power you'll want. To overcome this wire a 
switch
across one bulb. When closed it shorts out one of the bulbs and the other
returns to full candle power providing the light you need.
