Then how is it I see them and lots of
other GE, Midland etc stuff in use as GMRS stuff. I guess there is no self
policing of these frequencies like there is in Amateur. I bet if there was
that the 5 and 8 mile radios on sale at Wal-Mart (junk compared to a good
Kenwood 349E BTW) would be protested by legally licensed GMRS
operators. I saw how Wal-Mart and the manufactures get around this though
by including a mice type version of the GMRS application inside folded up in the
part you toss.
Has there ever been a "Pirate" GMRS
repeater shut down? GMRS is new to me and I'm wondering if it's just a
freeband whose only requirement is $80 to the FCC and then that is optional if
no one complains.
I notice there are only 2 GMRS repeaters
here in my area. No one seems to use them at
all.
