RG 58/U and both I think was  1/4 to 1/2 wave apart .

I think it may be related to tuning the circuit thru the coax 75 Ohms If I
recalled, then you tune each Antenna for lowest SWR taking 1 at a time off
to tune.

and your optimal spacing was same ...
