The ACC RC-96 with an internal FC-1 board is something I hadn't even considered. Back in the days when the RC-850 was just about the only ACC offering (before they made the '85, '96, etc.), I know the FC-1 was used for things like getting outputs to BCD Remote Base transceivers from the RC-850's expanded outputs, and I think also/instead to give up to 64 individual outputs for misc. user device control. It was also used with the SM-100 Shackmaster Remote Base Controller, and had some special outputs to run an ICOM IC-751/751A Series HF Transceiver. I still have an FC-1 in the recommended box that they suggested, and have the ribbon cable and connector to go to the underside of an IC-751A (which I no longer use) from my Shackmaster. I also have a spare FC-1 board that I picked up at Dayton some years ago.
I'll have to look through the RC-85 Manual and the old issues of "ACC Notes", but it seems to me like there was yet another special Serial board other than the FC-1 that was available for the RC-96, but it didn't have a typical ACC part number. I don't remember it being the FC-1, I think I would have remembered that, since I've spent so much time in years past working with them. But it has been a few months since I looked it up, while trying to get the RC-85/TS-440 to play together. If I remember correctly, the FC-1 takes serial data from the controller and converts it to BCD for radios like the IC-22/U, IC-2AT series, Azden PCS-2800, Drake UV-3, etc. But the TS-440 requires a serial data stream for its functions like frequency/band/mode/memory control, which it then converts internally with its set of two optional ICs, if the user has installed them in the radio. I don't have the ACC manuals and old ACC Notes copies here at home, but I'll try to get them and look through them sometime this week and see what they have to say about that "serial" board to go with the RC-96. I'd still like to find a way to get the RC-85 to run my TS-440 (which they say doesn't need a serial board) or find an RC-96 with that serial board installed. I'll post my findings when I find the appropriate notes in the various ACC docs. Larry -----Original Message----- >From: Eric Lemmon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Sent: Jan 1, 2006 10:45 PM >To: "'John J.
