Kevin, I strongly disagree. Many PAs have SWR shut down protection and they still are required to have isolators.
A system site owner does not care about your antenna or PA as long as it is mechnically secure, except for you moving because your equipment no longer functions. He wants the site protected from any PA intermod that may occur. I've dealt with a few site owners on this, some requiring specific types and manufactures equipment. Most repeater antennas last for years and have few problems. Sure they will eventually fail, but a PA intermod problem can start the day of the install. There are other reasons and use of an isolator. PA protection can be one, but again the site owner don't care about that.
