In Dallas for many years, the weather radar image of Ch 4's feed was "broadcast" on an ATV channel. The feed was linked to the building where the transmitter was via the 1.2 GHz amateur band (about +20 dBm at 1260 MHz). The system was turned on usually during RACES Nets to aid storm spotters in the field. With the advent of many Internet radar websites and local TV channels broadcasting fulltime radar images, the system is no longer useful as it once was in the mid 80's. We were at a good site though http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bank_of_America_Plaza_(Dallas) with our antenna buried amongst all of these. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Helipic.jpg

The Dallas amateur club repeater did that as far back as the mid 70s and broadcast other things too. The FCC district office is located there so I know they were aware of that. There are some items of ham interest you can broadcast like time temp weather etc. Some repeaters broadcast the NASA channel audio at times. ----- Original Message ----- From: Tony L.
