You should absolutely use discriminator audio and a flat-response transmitter, bypassing the restrictive receiver de-emphasis and the transmitter's pre-emphasis circuitry. If you use the discriminator audio, you will have to gate it with the receiver's COS circuitry, or preferably use a Micor squelch chip. Cheers! Rick - W7VTM
