FCC Denies Petition to Utilize 2m Sub-Band for Digital
D STAR DOES NOT NEED ITS OWN PLAN if all communication are done correctly
and thing thought out .
There is plenty of room if people would work together but too many are stuck
on OLD

The Big "M"
does many modes if trunking fail.
In my system if the astro P25 trunking fails or I lose the master site, the
site controller will still allow for the system to trunk, (single site trunk
only)
Now if I lose the master site and then the psc9600 site controller and the
second controller( two at each site) then the station will no longer trunk.
They are now in the failsoft mode each station is now astro digital conv
stations
The best part here is that When I program up the radio I have all the fail
soft and , and control channels etc etc are programmed into the radios
So if the system fails. And it ends up in failsoft then one trunk channel is
now for the police , one for fire, etc etc etc.
And if that fails there are 4 conv analog and digital mode mixed modes
repeaters just like my ham repeaters to use in P25 mode
Of course it is all how you plan the system before you deploy it .

Also correct me if I am wrong there is no way to turn off the dstar system
as in remote control?
Maybe on the newer systems there might be. I have also not heard a good
sounding D system yet.
Just my opnion

ICOM D* rigs have both analog and D*. However, one sets up a freq for one
or the other in memory. In VFO mode can switch between modes from the front
panel.

I would think Mot would have simplex modes even in their trunking. EDACS
does and here for the sheriff dept set up for emergency ops or when system
fails. However, it has been found few officers know how to switch, hi.
Since they very seldom do it they quickly forget.

No. If a P25 repeater goes down, you can have a 'mode' (as Moto calls it)
that is simplex on the output, and you will be still be heard by any radios
in range-IF you're on a conventional system. A trunked system is
different, but the radios do still have conventional simplex available,
and should be programmed.

D* I expect has the same thing.

I don't think there is a direct radio-to-radio mode in Mototrbo...I
could be wrong tho...
