Mike, in reading your original post I'm unclear if the above comment
refers to a DB408 or one of the glass Diamond sticks.  Anyway, there
will be no up or downtilt with a 408 because the dipoles are fed in
parallel.  The pattern does become broader, with a decrease in gain at
the horizon with departure from the design range.  As others have
said, they still do work very very well in the ham band. 

The series-fed types (usually fiberglass at these frequencies) *will*
tilt their patterns when moving away from their design frequency.
