That does nothing special on the T959. It boots normally into Android. I tried this with the usb plugged in and not. This web site: http://www.ithinkdiff.com/how-to-access-download-and-recovery-mode-in-samsung-vibrant/ seems to indicate that the only difference is whether the usb cable is plugged in or not. In both cases, I get to the same screen and the same options. There are plenty of other pages with a lot of suggestions that don't work. However, in a post on this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?s=e57eed91095e0ff31095229498812a9a&t=728332&page=2 There are these instructions: 1. Power down phone with no USB cable connected. 2. Once you see "good bye" connect USB cable. 3. Wait till battery indicator is visible, and you can see the current charge in green. 4. Hold vol+ and vol-. 5. Press power until screen goes black, then let go of power only. 6. Should see the yellow digger. This worked! So now I'm in download mode, but the phone is not recognized by the computer (lsusb doesn't report it) and heimdall still fails with the same ERROR: Failed to detect compatible download-mode device. Even with all the debugging options present: heimdall detect --stdout-errors --verbose --usb-log-level debug ERROR: Failed to detect compatible download-mode device. ERROR: Failed to detect compatible download-mode device. That's all I get. > > > [ about pushing various blobs as /sdcard/update.zip ] > > > Heimdall seems to want to do some intermediate step > > before the real CM is installed. It also says, in bright yellow letters with 4 exclamation points (!!!!) not to turn off target. Still, at this impasse I pressed the power button for about 10 seconds and the phone turned off and went back to battery charging. Interestingly, lsusb now reports: Bus 003 Device 004: ID 058b:0041 Infineon Technologies But that only lasts for a while and then the phone drops off the lsusb map. When put back in download mode, it becomes invisible to lsusb and heimdall. > > ... > If you can go back to download mode you are usually safe. I think there Whew! I can go back to normal boot, then download mode so nothing is damaged, but I can't use heimdall. > is an option to do a more verbose logging so you can see where things > have failed. Does anyone have other suggestions? Augustine _______________________________________________ Replicant mailing list [email protected] http://lists.osuosl.org/mailman/listinfo/replicant
