This is not about getting any of you to put non
free software into replicant. And
if my suggestions and questions are violating
rules for this email list
then discard this email.

I have several times said, it is good we have
replicant. But the phones which
are replicant compatible makes replicant a no
option for most people.

Can you make a non free version of replicant and
still call it replicant? Can
you make a non free version of replicant and call
it something else? By
non free version I mean, you add non free software
such that all
devices on a phone run. You select the phone model
because of its
popularity and no matter if it has no modem isolation.

My reasoning is, it is better if people have a
lineage os phone than an iphone
or android phone. It is better if people have a
replicant phone than a
lineage os phone. It is better if people have a
non free software replicant
phone than a lineaga os phone. And if more people
start using replicant,
being a free or non free version, then the moment
there is a fully free
software compatible phone, then there will be a
bigger potential number
of buyers for that phone. Because also those who
have a non free replicant
phone will know about replicant.

For illustration.
The samsung s7 has sold 55 million. You would port
a non free version
of replicant to the phone because of its sales
numbers. Also if
the phone does not have modem isolation.

Can a non free software version of replicant be
ported to any phone?
How big a task is it? If crowd funded, what
numbers are in the room
to have replicant ported?

I do not suggest those of you who despise non free
software to work on
non free replicant versions. I want to know what
it would entail in
money and work if there were people who would like
to have
non free replicant versions? Thank you.
