The flip side is that it suggests that the build for Hadoop 2.4 doesn't
work with 2.5 or 2.6, when I'm all but certain it does. And all the existing
discussion you find on Google that says "you don't need a 2.5/2.6 profile" now
also sounds confusing since the profiles exist and yet evidently do nothing
different.
If a later version needs a new profile, (that's kind of bad and,) yes
documentation as well as build would have to be updated. "2.4 to 2.6, and
possibly later" is as accurate a statement as anyone can make now. Doesn't this
equally argue that there should be profiles for lots of minor versions of other
dependencies? granted Hadoop is a primary one.
I don't feel strongly about it either way; add the profiles if you prefer
it moderately or more.
