The two scan modes are retained, but PreserveNative does not encode
`spark.sql.readSideCharPadding`. Direct catalog V2 recache now removes the
saved generated Project before re-analysis, so a write under the opposite
read-side-padding value can rebuild the cache under a different policy and
collapse two PreserveNative variants. Please capture or derive that flag when
replaying the saved cache policy and add the cross-padding recache case.
