Why would the host name that happens to be returned be any more guaranteed
to be the one you want? I don't think it needs yet another flag, as it just
explodes the permutations of configuration.
This sounds like a problem to be solved elsewhere. You are merely concerned
with identifying when two host identifiers are the same host even when they're
two different identifiers. But is it even true that the several IPs or
hostnames of a host are 'equivalent' in this sense? they could be different
NICs.
