    I'll pick this up tomorrow (stopped at `NettyRpcEnv.scala`), but I have a 
question: it seems like whenever `NettyRpcEnv` is initialized, it will start 
listening on a port; that's ok for now since akka behaves that way, but isn't 
it the case that it may not be necessary? If you're using an external shuffle 
service, there should be no need for executors to listen for incoming 
connections, right?
