The latest changes look good so I'm merging them into master 2.0.
@gatorsmile In the future it would be good if you could summarize the issue
with an example more succinctly from the beginning. This patch has gone through
a few iterations and it wasn't clear to me what the Hive bug you were talking
about is until later. The current PR description is much clearer.
