It would be very helpful if we can stabilize the LearningState API/Trait,
and you point to a commit/tag for that. This would help me finish Gibbs in
parallel with EM without having to refactor after this PR goes through. I am
thinking that this PR should be finished first, then I will open a followup PR
to merge Gibbs in (and review it). I still need to open that ticket when I get
a chance.
