No, you shouldn't confuse RHEL and Fedora -- they are completely
different beasts. RHEL will probably continue to be based on Fedora,
but it will have a subset of packages chosen by Red Hat.

However, you should be able to use any packages in EPEL by simply
adding the (not yet finalized) EPEL repository in yum. If pure-ftpd is
not yet in the EPEL branch, you can request that someone maintains it
there. I'd offer to do it, but I'm quite happy with vsftpd at this
point.

I realize that rhel is going to contain a much stricter set of packages due to enterprise requirements... I just wasnt sure how the merging of core and extras would affect that difference going forward.

Thanks for letting me know about EPEL.. i'll look into it, because that would be nice.
