The comment in MY syslog.conf is:

# Logging much else clutters up the screen.
#kern.* /dev/console

This comment is only preventing logging kernel messahes to the console,
it has nothing to do with what goes to /var/log/messages. The man page
explains the format of the syslog.conf file, and what you need to look
at are the entries pertaining to /var/log/messages...

Thanks,

Kevin

Ok, thanks,
I already read man pages.

You should probably read the man pages - there is quite a bit of
detailed explanation there:

        man syslog.conf

        Thanks,

        Hi,
Why does RHEL syslog.conf (/etc/syslog.conf) have comnent
kernel log (kern.*) messages,
but /var/log/messages has lines with kernel: log?

should I uncomment thi line at /etc/syslog.conf?

Which are the diferences between facility.priority and
facility.=priority?

        thanks
