I know this is a late reply but I wanted, just for the record, to be
clear that this didn't work, and I'm still having this problem:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] yum.repos.d]# rm -fr /var/cache/yum/*
[EMAIL PROTECTED] yum.repos.d]# yum check-update
Loading "rhnplugin" plugin
epel                      100% |=========================| 2.1 kB
00:00
primary.xml.gz            100% |=========================| 931 kB
00:00
epel      : ################################################## 2908/2908
rhel-i386-server-5        100% |=========================| 1.2 kB
00:00
primary.xml.gz            100% |=========================| 1.6 MB
00:00
Error: failed to retrieve repodata/primary.xml.gz from
rhel-i386-server-5
error was [Errno -1] Metadata file does not match checksum
[EMAIL PROTECTED] yum.repos.d]#

I have no idea whats going on here and google searches come up only with
references to my original post. At one point I think I got it working
temporarily (which is why I haven't responded in over a month), and
generally I leave this system alone and don't install anything, however
I'm trying to update my system now and simply can't.

Is there any way to figure out what's going on here?

Thanks,
Nick
