It's a very strange problem. Today I did a 'yum update' and it worked
fine. Yesterday I tried every possible way and had no luck.
I was able to install the packages I needed thankfully, but now I'm
worried this problem will happen again the next time I'm in a pinch to
install some packages :(

I doubt it.... RHEL is separate from Fedora. I just updated my
RHELv5 workstation without problem.
