It was John Darby and Edward Irving who were responsible for popularizing dispensationalism in Scotland and England. It began in Scotland in 1830, when a young Scottish woman, Margaret MacDonald, had a revelation. Darby evidently borrowed from her revelation and modified her views without giving her any credit. Darby visited the U.S. about five times and his dispensationalism became part of the Scofield Reference Bible. The notes in Scofield's Bible caused this new teaching to find favor in this country.
