I should likely leave others to answer this. Israel isn't the only one
building a wall. Since 9/11 there have been built many walls. If you go to
Washington and haven't been there for awhile you will be struck first at
all the barricades; Washington has become a walled city. So too the
Pentagon. I worked there 4 years. No longer can anyone enter a military
base without proper identification. I use to visit them all the time and
was never checked at the gate. No more. There is a wall being build along
the Rio Grande. It is being constructed to keep out illegals. There is
also a wall right now being constructed around the United Nations building
in NY. So many walls - but the only one that is objected to is the one
around Israeli cities.
Yasser Arafat is in my view unfit. Ariel Sharon, however, is much maligned
for being a general who made hard decisions. That is what generals do. I
suggest you read the two biographies of Ariel Sharon to learn about the
man. One, the autobiography was of course his memoir. The unofficial bio
called "Warrior..." would provide you with more insight than you can now
get from those who hate him, which are all those who also do not know him.
It was Ariel who Sadat (someone here said they admired Sadat) asked for to
show Egyptians how to make their farms work and he did. He went to Egypt
and as a guest of Anwar Sadat contributed a great deal to Egyptian
development and growth. He was also the most feared general who fought in
every war. And many would be surprised to see pictures of him as a dashing
young man (he wasn't always fat). But I do believe that for most the
assessments they make are not informed and do not add very much to any
greater level of discourse.
