I think you are asking me if I can give examples of either Jewish or
Christian terrorism...
...many writers have said that the US led invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq
are terrorism. Of course we have to agree on what is meant by terrorism.
I've quoted the Macquarie (Australian national) Dictionary "a method of
resisting a government or of governing by deliberate acts of armed
violence". To terrorise "to dominate or coerce by intimidation."
Very often terrorism is portrayed as the actions of resistance groups or
anti-establishment groups. It is not often labelled against governments -
but I think there are many current governments relying on holding power by
terrorising their populations.
So the average Arab would see the "Christian" invasion of Afghanistan and
Iraq as terrorism.
Certainly large numbers of innocent civilians have been killed... and if
there are militants hiding amongst heavily populated areas, the US and
coalition forces seen to have no problem with bombing and attacking.
Bombs dropping on civilians from the air, surely are as terroristic as bombs
packed in trucks on the highway.
Of course, you wanted examples of "Christian" (and we know George Bush is a
funny sort of Christian. Who really knows if he is really one. For example
Richard Nixon claimed to be one, and went to a different church every week).
There are plenty of examples of other terrorist governments... the Muslim
Sudan is the one making the news right now. Catholic and Voodoo Haiti is
another.
I have written elsewhere why I think Islam hasn't had the chance to have its
reformation... and yes, I think there is some truth in that argument. But I
would not tar all Muslims with the fundamentalist brush.... the vast
majority are quite well-adjusted, normal people. You will realise that the
largest Muslim country in the world is Indonesia...which has its problems
admittedly...but is pretty quiet on the whole. In Bangladesh they are just
getting on with survival. The Gulf States are pretty quiet.

to experience a similar "reformation" where these obsolete ideas are more or
less purged, at least from everyday life. It seems to me and perhaps many
others, wrongly or rightly, that most Muslims are trying to live "by the
Book", so to speak. And the "Book" is what Hank keeps referring to. Yes
there are those in both Judaism and Christianity who might prefer to go
backwards and live the life of the Bible(s), just as there are many within
Islam who only wish, as do the majority of humans on the planet, to simply
live in peace, and to allow the same for the "other". The problem we face
_today_ however, is the fanaticism of the fundamentalist Muslim, not ALL
Muslims, (although it is difficult to sometimes tell the difference) that
the rest of the world has to contend with NOW. So, to those that might wish
to answer: Except for your perception of Israel, can you cite any modern day
examples of either Jewish or Christian terrorism as it is perceived to exist
within Islam? Remember Israel, and it's rebirth are not included here,
simply because of the obvious disagreement on what is terrorism.
