My sister moved to the Tri-Cities area of WA about a month ago and is
preparing to move her mare up there with her. She's looked at a couple
different board situations for her, and is considering two that seem to
have the best living situation with the safest fencing.

Both facilities would provide a stall or shelter in inclement weather, both
would have the mare on irrigated pasture 24/7 otherwise. Both usually feed
alfalfa hay. Both have access to extensive trails.

One of the places will feed 50/50 timothy and alfalfa when they can get
decent quality timothy, their horses are on "NW supplement" (some sort of
vit/selenium supplement) and are willing to feed supplements the owner
provides. There's a nice sized round pen with decent footing, and another
arena with no real footing to speak of (grass/dirt). There is no onsite
trainer or instructor, but boarders can bring someone in. It would be about
a 15-20 minute drive.

The other place feeds alfalfa only, and the pasture used to be an alfalfa
hay field. They charge quite a bit extra to feed any sort of supplement.
They have better footing in the arena, but no round pen. There is an onsite
trainer abailable for training/lessons. This place is about a 10 minute
drive, and is a little less expensive.

This is my sister's first horse, so she'd like to have access to a trainer
to help her out, take regular lessons, etc. She's leaning toward the first
place as their fences are in better repair, they seem more flexible in
terms of feed/supplements, etc. but she doesn't know any trainers in the
area.

Does anyone have thoughts on these two board/care situations? Anyone live
near Richland-Kennewick-Pasco who can recommend trainers, instructors,
farriers, chiros, etc? My sis would also love to find some riding buddies
up there.

Thanks,
Kimberly
