 You may try to analyse the shape of the (0,0,0) peak on the Patterson 
map. In the case of a preferred orientation it usually elongates in the

directions perpendicular to the reflecting planes of the weakened
reflections. The indexes of the plane which is perpendicular to the
direction of the maximal or minimal size of the (0,0,0) peak can be
chosen as the (pr1,pr2,pr3) parameters.
I customarily use this trick and have satisfactory results.
