I'm not doing anything fancy. The "Artist" is almost always the composer, except when it's a performer that I particularly like. This is how I have my CDs arranged on the shelf, so I'm sticking with that. For operas, I put the names of a few of the principal singers in the "Album", so I can tell different versions apart. I break up CDs into separate albums sometimes (for example, if there are two symphonies on one CD), but not when this would become tedious (e.g., twenty Chopin Nocturnes on one CD). I'm not saying this is the best way, but it should work for me.
