I think I've been asking the wrong question. What appears to happen is that SS transcodes WMAL to FLAC and streams the FLAC.
The question I have is whether Replay Gain then analyzes the FLAC file and applies volume leveling before streaming. Seems like a lot of on-the-fly processing...it must "look ahead" in the playlist and process the next file. I've e-mailed tech support again on this matter and will post any info I receive.
