If it's this thread you're referring to http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27739 ? nobody claimed they used transcoding with replay gain successfully. mkozlows pointed out that he was able to transcode to flac without any problems but he didn't say much about replay gain. radish on the other hand already mentioned that it wasn't possible to add replay gain information on the fly.
