One argument for using FLAC over Apple Lossless is that FLAC is played
natively by SB, whereas ALAC must be transcoded to a native format
[flac or wav more than likely] on the server before being sent across
the network.

If you've got a powerful enough machine to handle the on-the-fly
transcoding, this isn't a problem ... but if you're running the server
on a relatively low-spec machine ... you may see performance issues ...
especially if other processes are running such as a library scan, or
MusicMagic validation ... whatever.
