It seems to me that it would be more beneficial to see if Apple will
sell single-user licenses for their Quicktime plug-in mentioned on
wiki. Then create an intermediate stream layer between the Quicktime
plug-in and the normal server plug-in interface. Then folks could
choose to use/pay for it on an as-needed/wanted basis.

DRM won't ever go away, and though it's causing me headaches, being the
holder of some patents and lots of copyrights myself, I certainly
appreciate the need, particularly for the creatives. Though in the
music business it certainly has been proven by a few groups that
distributing stuff cheaply and unprotected/DRM'd generates more net
revenues for them than distributing through the major channels. Most
of those bands ALREADY had/have a following though, the Catch-22 is
that you have to get in bed with the publishers and distributors to
create an audience, and by then it's hard to unwind.

[164kb MP3 encoded library (wish FLAC had been around when I did most of
my ripping oh so long ago) -> PC -> 100 Mb network -> SB3 -> Denon 3805
(used mainly as a pre-amp / DSP) -> Speakercraft BB1265 running
whole-house audio, rack of assorted amps, mostly older Carvers or
Sunfires -> bi-amp'd Paradigm Reference Studio 100 V.3's, CC-570,
ADP-470's, and my own make of electrostatics (hence the rack of
Amps).]
