Thanks Eric, that's very helpful! I kept meaning to do it myself but
never found the time. I've noticed that the wiki's formatting options
don't allow me to make parts of the grey-background text (indicating a
command prompt in the examples) be bold; any suggestions?

Update on the utility itself: in my local code I've added a --split
option, which can be used multiple times with values like "04:25.6" (or
"+03:32.13" for a timestamp relative to the last position) to cause the
output to be split on AC3 or DTS boundaries. The code's a bit messy
though, so I need to clean it up. :-)

A problem has become apparent though: how does one determine accurate
split points? They generally have to be sub-second, and it would be
annoying to copy them manually from the ripping software's GUI. I
therefore intend to try parsing the IFO file present on the DVD (which
SmartRipper happens to extract, but which is otherwise fairly easily
available) for chapter marks. This would make extraction of an album a
lot easier! In theory one would rip the entire soundtrack as a single
big file, then point spdifconvert at that file and an IFO file, and let
it do its thing...

Still working on it though.
