1.1.3 added the ability to take an existing FLAC file and re-compress
it using the new algorithms. This preserves all the meta data within
the FLAC so you don't have to re-tag.

I think there are scripts (perl and batch files) that will run through
a complete library re-compressing everything as well as maintaining the
file modified/created dates and possibly adding album art to the meta
data as well. 

I intend doing this at some point on my collection. As mrfantasy said,
large drives are pretty cheap, but i'd rather not replace both my
online and backup offline copy drives just yet. 5% Might be optimistic
in a lick for like test, but a lot of mine was compressed with -5 as
opposed to -8 so i do expect to see a good few gig saving.
