Hi, Thanks for the response. It's great to be able to blame a windows issue. I use KaudioCreator CD ripper which I think uses cdparanoia. I'll try to find out how to avoid those characters. i try to visually check the file names before ripping, but occasionally I miss one. The files created work OK but look bad and deleting them from my Kubuntu box is a right royal pain. I then rerip with a compatible file name.
