I have recently found out about MP3Gain. However there is something I don't unders“tand I hope somebody might have an explation for.
I took a completely new CD and ripped to [EMAIL PROTECTED] When I analyze the tracks with MP3Gain it will tell me that most of them are very loud (95 to 98 db) and those will clip when played. Since I tend to trust my ears and my stereo I played the unmodified MP3 tracks and can't hear any clipping or distortion at all. So my question is, how can a fresh ripped CD contain clipping? Has it been introduced during the ripping/encoding? Or it was there already in the original CD? Or simply MP3gain is calculating the values incorrectly? The point of all is that I would rather not touch the original MP3 files unless necessary, and the only reasons why it should be necessary is if there is risk of clipping. Thoughts?
